The character of the Indian's emotion left little room in his heart for antagonism toward his fellow creatures .... For the Lakota (one of the three branches of the Sioux Nation), mountains, lakes, rivers, springs, valleys, and the woods were all in finished beauty. Winds, rain, snow, sunshine, day, night, and change of seasons were endlessly fascinating. Birds, insects, and animals filled the world with knowledge that defied the comprehension of man.

The Lakota was a true naturalist - a lover of Nature. He loved the earth and all things of the earth, and the attachment grew with age. The old people came literally to love the soil and they sat or reclined on the ground with a feeling of being close to a mothering power.

It was good for the skin to touch the earth, and the old people liked to remove their moccasins and walk with bare feet on the sacred earth.

Their tipis were built upon the earth and their alters were made of earth. The birds that flew in the air came to rest upon the earth, and it was the final abiding place of all things that lived and grew. The soil was soothing, strengthening, cleansing, and healing.

This is why the old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its live giving forces. For him, to sit or lie upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply and to feel more keenly; he can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him.

Kolejny wykaz pozycji - tym razem książki i publikacje drukowane, w których została poruszona tematyka Indian. Znajdziecie tu nie tylko biografie, dokumenty i książki historyczne, ale również powieści i wiersze nawiązujące do problematyki Indian.

O Indianach - kultura i sztuka, część 2

Dodaję kolejną listę do zakładki 'Publikacje' - tym razem są to tytuły filmów o historii Indian, biografie, dokumenty, a także filmy współczesne, w których tematyka Indian się pojawia. Podobnie jak w przypadku artystów, tak i tutaj będę dopisywać kolejne tytuły do karty 'Publikacje'.

O Indianach - kultura i sztuka

Na blogu pojawiła się nowa zakładka 'Publikacje', w której sukcesywnie dopisywać będę znane i mniej znane osobistości związane ze światem Indian, tytuły książek o Indianach, sztuk teatralnych czy filmów przedstawiających ich życie. Dzisiaj dodaję kilka nazwisk artystów (pisarzy, malarzy, rzeźbiarzy, muzyków, etc), których prace związane były z kulturą Indian lub których tematem przewodnim byli Indianie. W miarę upływu czasu będę dopisywała kolejne nazwiska do listy (w karcie 'Publikacje').

Łza Apacza - legenda indiańska

Gdybym miała możliwość, usiadłabym teraz na leśnej trawie, pośrodku świata i pomiędzy światami. Z dala od zgiełku miasta, ulic i ludzi. Siedziałabym sama, ale nie samotna. I czekałabym cierpliwie. Czekałabym na Tych, którzy do mnie dołączą. Wiem, że by do mnie przybyli. W kręgu, wokół ognia, rozsiadłyby się dusze Apaczów, dusze wojowników, którzy zginęli i dusze kobiet, które ich opłakiwały. A ja opowiedziałabym im historię, którą sami stworzyli - o walce, cierpieniu, o płaczu i o tym, co do dziś jest symbolem tamtych zdarzeń. Opowiedziałabym im legendę o Łzach Apacza.

An Indian Prayer

O' GREAT SPIRIT,
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me! I am small and weak, I need your
strength and wisdom.

Let Me Walk In Beauty, and make my eyes
ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make My Hands Respect the things you have
made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make Me Wise so that I may understand the
things you have taught my people.

Let Me Learn the lessons you have hidden
in every leaf and rock.

I Seek Strength, not to be greater than my
brother, but to fight my greatest
enemy...myself.

Make Me Always Ready to come to you with
clean hands and straight eyes.

So When Life Fades, as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you
without shame.

Światowy Dzień Wegetarianizmu.

Dziś jest Światowy Dzień Wegetarianizmu ;) Wszystkim tym, którzy nie przyczyniają się pośrednio do zabijania zwierząt i traktują ich jak przyjaciół, a nie obiad, życzę wszystkiego, co najpiękniejsze ;) Oby było nas więcej! :)))

Jeszcze tylko dodam, że za trzy dni, czyli 4 X, obchodzić będziemy Światowy Dzień Zwierząt (World Animal Day), ustanowiony w 1931 roku na konwencji ekologicznej we Florencji. Dzień ten rozpoczyna Światowy Tydzień Zwierząt (World Animal Week) - więc niech wszystkie zwierzaki -  udomowione, dzikie, te, które znalazły w człowieku przyjaciela i te, które nadal są samotne i przestraszone , otrzymają od nas ludzi odrobinę serca . Każdy zwierzak powinien być traktowany jak żywa istota, a nie maskotka... pamiętajmy o tym każdego dnia ;)

Na koniec przypomnę jeszcze, że w Polsce październik jest miesiącem dobroci dla zwierząt ;)
